The breathtaking contempt at the heart of the British government for its own people and for democracy was showcased by its Conservative-Liberal Democrats coalition on October 24. Prompted by popular sentiment, a non-binding motion on Britain and the European Union was scheduled to be debated by MPs. The motion proposed holding a referendum, giving the public a chance to express their opinion on whether the country should withdraw from the EU, or remain a part of the EU, perhaps with the intention of negotiating some powers back from Brussels.

Tory 1922 Committee Secretary: EU is an “occupying force”
Mark Pritchard, the secretary of the 1922 Committee has demanded a vote on Britain’s membership of the EU. The committee is composed of Eurosceptic and traditionalist Conservative MPs, and had an early run in with Prime Minister David Cameron, just after the election of 2010, when he insisted that Ministers be allowed to help choose its chairman — almost needless to say, to ensure that it would be in lockstep with Government decisions.

The 1922 Committee, which is on the Right of the Conservative Party, has reportedly been warning the Prime Minister for several months that there is growing discontent at positions the Government has taken on a range of issues.
